Financial Coverage of the Hong Kong Scholarship

  • The Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme pays HK$325,200 (approximately US$41,690) per year (to Cover Housing, Meals)
  • Each awardee will receive a conference and a research-related travel stipend of HK$13,600 (approximately US$1,740) per year for up to three years.
  • In the academic year 2022/23, 300 Fellowships will be awarded.

Eligibility Criteria

Interested candidates must meet the following Criteria to be eligible for the Hong Kong Government Scholarships;

  • All nationalities are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must demonstrate exceptional scholarly performance, research capacity/potential, correspondence and relational abilities, and initiative abilities.
  • To apply for this grant, candidates must have a Master’s Degree Program.
  • Shortlisted applications will be reviewed by one of the two accompanying Selection Panels, which will include experts from the important board regions: Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business Studies, as well as Science, Medicine, Engineering, and Technology

How to Apply

Step 1: Obtain a HKPFS Reference Number

Before applying for Ph.D. admission to their desired universities, applicants must first submit an Initial Application online through the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES) to obtain a HKPFS Reference Number by December 1st, 2022. Applicants may apply for up to two programs.
