GloCal Health Fellowship is a one-year program that provides cutting-edge training and opportunities for healthcare professionals interested in working in community-based settings. The fellowship provides a unique opportunity to work with some of the country’s leading healthcare organizations and experts in community health and social justice.

The fellowship is intended for doctoral students (PhD, DrPH, etc.) and postdoctoral fellows in the United States, as well as foreign postdoctoral fellows from affiliated international sites in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The fellowship offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers a variety of topics, such as community-based health assessment, program development and evaluation, and social marketing. The program also provides opportunities to learn from some of the country’s leading healthcare experts and to network with other fellows and professionals in the field.

Financial Benefits of the GloCal Health Fellowship

GloCal Health Fellowships, which begin each year in July, offer:

  • Stipend support for 12 months in a row
  • Funding for research ($15,000)
  • Costs of travel to and from the international field site
  • Help with online courses
  • A week-long orientation on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the GloCal Health Fellowship l, Fellows must;

  • Be citizens of the United States or its territories or possessions, or persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence,
    • OR if international postdocs, be citizens of one of the GloCal Health Fellowship Program’s 17 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Postdoctoral fellows from LMICs must complete their fellowships in their home countries.
  • Have expressed interest in and commitment to a career in global health research.
  • When they apply, they will have the support of two dedicated faculty mentors. More on mentors is provided below.
