Applications are welcomed for the Global Citizens Scholarship Program for international and global students as a whole, to study for free at an accredited Global Citizen University or College.

The Global Citizens Scholarship program is available for international students who want to study abroad in any subject area at an accredited institution of higher education. Students may enroll full-time or part-time and receive scholarship assistance throughout their entire degree program.

The Global Citizens Scholarship program has been helping young people from all over the world gain international experience and perspective since 2009. The program’s impact has already been far-reaching, with several scholars finding success in their work long after the program ended – yet it’s still so new that many people have never heard of it.

Purpose of the Global Citizens Scholarships

The purpose of the The Global Citizens Scholarship is twofold.

First, offering an opportunity for people to study abroad. Second, aims to connect the world through education by bringing together students from all corners of the globe in mutual learning environments.

The goal is for every student who participates in a study abroad program with The GC Scholarship Society to gain new knowledge and make a lifelong impact on their own community and the global community as a whole.

Timeline of the Global Citizens Scholarships

Scholarships are available for Spring and Fall Semesters, starting as early as February.

Students must submit their applications by September 1, at 11:59 p.m. PST.

The application period for Summer Programs is October 1 – December 31st (11:59pm PST).

The final scholarship deadline is January 15th. Award notifications are made approximately one month after each application period closes, on a rolling basis.

  • All awards are for study abroad programs beginning in August or September.
  • Applications will be considered until all funds have been allocated or program deadlines have passed.

There is no guarantee that students will receive an award if they apply before or during these dates; students should apply only when they are ready to begin studying abroad.

Application Details for the Global Citizens Scholarships

The application is all electronic and available exclusively online. Applicants can apply anytime during fall and spring of their senior year in high school, but must be officially admitted into an accredited four-year college or university before October 1 of their senior year.

Students are encouraged to apply early as scholarship funds are limited. Students who do not receive scholarships will still have access to study abroad programs through their home institution at no cost.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Applicants are required to make a 3-minute video on why they want to study abroad and how their experience will benefit them.

The scholarship is limited to five students per country. It is open to undergraduates studying abroad in any discipline who have earned at least 60 credit hours by June of the current year.

  • Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA throughout their undergraduate careers, as well as an overall 3.0 GPA while studying in Spain or Argentina during their first semester of study.

Applications Review Criteria

Potential recipients of The Global Citizens Scholarship will be evaluated based on a set of standard review criteria, including but not limited to:

  • (1) their application essay,
  • (2) their academic transcripts and standardized test scores,
  • (3) letters of recommendation from teachers and/or counselors, and
  • (4) an optional video component.

Essays must be no less than three paragraphs long with a minimum of 500 words per paragraph; shorter essays will not be considered.

All essays should address why you are applying for The Global Citizens Scholarship, what your plans are after high school graduation, and how international travel has influenced your worldview.

Please note that all materials submitted as part of your application package become property of The Global Citizens Scholarship program and cannot be returned or copied in any way.
